Knowledge and expertise as a cultural liaison.

Having grown up in a bilingual and bicultural environment on the Mexico-United States Border, Jaime has tremendous knowledge and expertise as a cultural liaison. He has organized orientations - before and during - for faculty and students participating in study abroad and development programs to Mexico, He has also served as adviser to staff, faculty, and students in MCCCD traveling to Mexico. He has also taught courses, including History of Mexico, Latinx Culture, and Chicano Studies, at the higher education level, that have further helped him explore, understand, and teach about the relationship between the United States and Mexico.

Conocimiento y experiencia como enlace cultural.

Habiendo crecido en un entorno bilingüe y bicultural en la frontera México- Estados Unidos, Jaime tiene vasto conocimiento y experiencia como enlace cultural. Ha organizado – antes y después - orientaciones para profesores y estudiantes que participan en programas de  estudio al extranjero y programas de desarrollo profesional en México. También ha sido consejero a personal, profesores y estudiantes de MCCCD que viajan a México. Además ha enseñado cursos en la Historia de México, Cultura Latinx y Estudios Chicanos al nivel de educación superior, que le han permitido explorar, entender y enseñar acerca la relación entre México y los Estados Unidos.

Collaborative relationships with institutions in Mexico and the United States.

Over the course of his career as an educator, he has developed collaborative and professional relationships with educational institutions in Mexico and the United States, including the Mexican Consulate in Phoenix, Arizona; the University of Guanajuato; the Instituto Tecnológico de Hermosillo; the Secretaría de Educación y Cultura (SEC) of Sonora; the Secretaría de Educación de Guanajuato (SEG); as well as with the Escuela de Nivel Medio Superior in Guanajuato ; Arizona State University’s Mexico Office; and several Normal Schools in Sonora and Guanajuato. In addition, his experience as a professor for MCCCD, one of the largest community college systems in the United States, and at Arizona State University, have further helped him continue this work.

Consultant and adviser on Mexico and United States related academic relationships, partnerships, and collaborations.

Throughout his career as an educator, Jaime has served as a consultant and adviser on Mexico and United States related academic relationships, partnerships, and collaborations. This includes the writing, translating, negotiating, and signing of Memorandums of Understanding between Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) and the University of Guanajuato (UG); between Rio Salado College and the UG; between MCCCD and the Secretaría de Educación and Cultura of Sonora; as well as between UG and the International Teacher’s Alliance. He is also the consultant for Dr. Kate Smith, president of Rio Salado College; she serves in as co-chair of the Education Committee of the Arizona-Mexico Commission (AMC). In this role, he is the lead liaison between Arizona and Sonora education related initiatives, activities, and collaborations.

Academically and experientially trained in both Spanish and English, Jaime has a bilingual fluency that allows him to be interpreter, translator, writer, editor,  and educator, both formally and informally, during presentations; tours both in Mexico and the United States; informal and formal occasions and conversations; in academic conferences; in the preparation and writing of presentations and of documents; and in collaboration with other academics in translations, including Dr. Gabriel Medrano’s book on the toy in Guanajuato, El juguete popular guanajuatense; Dr. José Chávez Morado’s doctoral dissertation on “Plastic Monumentalism in México,” and Dr. Benjamín Valdivia’s book of poetry, Nuevos Himnos de la Noche/New Hymns to the Night (with Dr. Kimberly Williams), published by UG Press in 2023. Jaime has a breadth of experience starting, developing, and leading education focused groups - including of students, teachers, and professors - to Mexico and the United States. For almost thirty years, Jaime has organized and led study abroad and faculty development programs from the United States to Mexico. He has been in charge of developing, budgeting, logistics of travel, housing, and transportation, and all similarly related tasks in both of these endeavors. The study abroad program, which he led for over twenty years, over the years took over five hundred students to Mexico, and the faculty development program, which he started and currently co-directs, has taken over one hundred MCCCD faculty to Mexico for collaborative work with Mexican counterparts and institutions.

Jaime tiene vasta experiencia gestionando, desenvolviendo y liderando grupos con enfoque educativo – incluyendo de estudiantes, maestres y profesores – a México y los Estados Unidos. Por casi treinta años, Jaime ha organizado y liderado programas de estudio al extranjero y de desarrollo profesional de los Estados Unidos a México. Él ha estado encargado de gestionar, crear presupuesto, organizar logística de viaje, transportación y alojamiento y todas tareas relacionadas a tales trabajos. El programa de estudio al extranjero, que lideró por más de veinte años, a través de los años llevó a más de quinientos estudiantes a México, y el programa de desarrollo profesional para profesores, que él comenzó y actualmente co-dirige, ha llevado a más de cien profesores de MCCCD a México para trabajar en colaboración con colegas e instituciones en México.
